Dzongri Goecha La trek is one of the most popular trails in Sikkim. Ever since Sikkim has opened its doors to tourism, it has been a heavenly abode for trekkers. Huddled in between Tibet in the north, Nepal in the west and Bhutan in the east, Sikkim offers a much different trekking experience. The trails, the people and the culture there is in a very much sharp contrast to the rest of India.

Originating from Yuksom, this trail offers the most lavish and diverse Flora and fauna along with the most extravagant view of the Mount Kanchenjunga, the magnificent along with other peaks like Kabru, Rathong, Pandim and many more. The route offers enchanting glimpses to some of the 45 varieties of rhododendrons, over 400 varieties of orchids and thousands of different plantations. Walking under the canopy of red Rhododendrons on a stretch between Tshoka and Phedang, is one of the most life altering moments that you can come across in your life. But the most astounding moment lies at the end of this flower trail, where you get a view of Mt Kanchenjunga, enough to make all the sweat and hardness of the trek seem fruitful. You can’t get much closer to Kanchenjunga, without actually climbing it than this. The other highlights of this trail is the opulent blue waters of the Samiti Lake, and the historic Dubdi monastery, where the first religious king of Sikkim, H.H. Funchook Namgyal was coroneted by Lama Gyalwa Latchen Thembo, who brought Buddhism to Sikkim at 1641 A.D.

The trail also boasts of forests of pine, magnolia, oak, spruces, rhododendron, maple, chestnut and many other types of pines culminating in the Dzongri field. Rarely seen Red Panda, Barking deer, marbled cat are also sighted in this stretch. The route takes you through several of the 164 monasteries of Sikkim, which offers a peace and serenity and a diligently preserved culture, amidst the ever changing world. This trek offers some breathtaking views. The view from atop the Dzongri, at 13,675 feet above sea level, is one of the best views of this trek. Along with various Himalayan peak of Nepal, The Black Kabru, Pandim and Kanchenjunga is seen from here. The Goecha La trek can undoubtedly designated the most romantic trek the Indian Himalayas has to offer. The enchanting walk through the Tshoka, ever looming presence of Kanchenjunga, the vast Dzongri and Thansing meadows leaves quite a mark in one’s mind. The Goecha La boasts of three view points, with breath taking views of Kanchenjunga. Though the 1st view point is accessed by all, very few trek expeditions cover the 2nd view point. But the third view point with the most marvellous view is only covered by Wetrekkers, as our principle concern is always the experience one gathers from the trek and not just the commerce.
